THE MUSIC IN ME: December 2022

Updated: Jan 9, 2023

UPCOMING PUBLIC EVENTS

  • Laka (soul) is taking a break from public events to spend more time in the studio. Check back for more Vote for Pedro appearances.

  • Friday, January 29th | Check out my friend Larysa Jae (Nashville based singer-songwriter) at the Dark Room. Tix at metrotix.com.

LAKA (SOUL)

On November 10, I had the priviledge of performing with Corey Patterson (keys) and Gabe Bonfili (percussion) at the Magsaysay x MGC fashion event to celebrate their new collection. We filled the place with beautiful soulful music and lots of custom made suits were soul'd in the process!

Since St. Louis Woman finished production at the end of October, I’ve turned my attention towards recording music.

First up was a cover of Fishing in the Dark for realtor Joseph Magsaysay of Better Homes & Gardens. Big thanks to Timothy McGimpsey (sound engineer) Hunter Peebles (guitar, vocals), Corey Patterson (keys), Gabe Bonfili (percussion) for their work on the music.

My next recording project is a soundtrack for St. Louis Woman, followed by lots of original tunes that I can't wait to share! Stay tuned for that.

VOTE FOR PEDRO

Private events

With fall wedding season coming to an end and holiday parties and winter weddings out in full swing, December is going to be a busy month of private performances!

I love having the opportunity to perform at weddings and holiday parties because the venues are always so beautiful. It’s also so much fun to listen to the speeches and get to know the bride and groom! Plus, the crowd really brings the party and the energy – it’s infectious to give so much energy and feel it coming back from the crowd!

Public events

After performing at the Ritz Carlton in Clayton a couple of times this Fall, we opened December with a banging show at Judy's Velvet Lounge in River City Casino.

WHAT'S NEW

I recently started taking guitar lessons with the wonderful Ron Jackson. Learning is a slow process, but I’m happy with my progress and excited to continue improving my skills.

Within the next couple of weeks, I'm resuming dance lessons with Ashley Tate who was our choreographer for St. Louis Woman. I had so much fun dancing in the play that I know future audiences will enjoy me incorporating more dance into my music shows.

LIFE BEYOND MUSIC

With the work on St. Louis Woman taking place between December 2021 and October 2022, I fell out of a lot of my routines. I’m happy to say that I’m now back on track!

I’ve been taking a few different fitness classes, including Pilates, barre, and yoga. I also continued by Thanksgiving of tradition of Turkey Troting this year.

I’m also back on a good morning routine. For me, this includes meditating, affirmations, writing my to-do list for the day, and doing a gratitude practice. Having a good morning routine is something I’ve done for many years, but I fell out of practice when my schedule got hectic. I’m so glad to be back in the habit of having my morning routine – it sets me up for a successful day!

Many of you know, I'm a dietitian by day. With being so busy with work and music, it’s often hard to cook from scratch. Lately, I’ve been ordering Cook Unity and Farmer’s Fridge meals. They aren't necessarily healthy foods, but healthier and more convenient than eating out. I'm always trying new ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

That's all for now. I hope to keep up with posting a monthly newsletter. If you enjoy reading these, please let me know and subscribe by visiting my website www.lakasoul.com. While you're there check out upcoming performances and merch.
